The Xavier Nanjing Experience 2025 is a new program organized by the China International Programs Office in collaboration with the High School International Programs Office. It allows students from Xavier School San Juan and Nuvali to engage with authentic Chinese culture and history while enhancing their Mandarin skills in a real-world context. The program also provides both faculty companions and students with an experience focused on the trends in technology and engineering, all while emphasizing the importance of preserving cultural heritage, history, and the environment.
The program officially kicked off last April 2 with the Opening Ceremony, officiated by Mr. Gao Jia, General Manager of the Qianzhi Study Tour (Nanjing) Education Technology Co., Ltd, Ms. Li Dong, Vice President of the Training Institute, Nanjing Metro Operation Co., Ltd., Mrs. Arlene T. Choo, Founding Principal of Xavier School Nuvali and Team Leader of the Xavier Nanjing Experience (XNE), and Ms. Li Jingyan, Chinese teacher and supervisor of XNE 2025.
The students had a busy first week! They explored the Nanjing Metro system, even trying out a virtual reality simulation of driving a city train and building a model of a train carriage. They also got creative with 3D pens and Chinese craft classes. In addition to all the fun, they’ve stayed active with athletics and practiced their Mandarin in real-life situations, learning essential city survival skills. The group was also able to attend Sunday mass at the Nanjing Immaculate Conception Cathedral (NICC), even meeting a fellow Xaverian, Jasper Chua (XS HS 2003)!
Yesterday saw them learning more about the culture and history of China by visiting the Yunjin Museum, the Confucius Temple, and the Laomen East Scenic Area. It’s been an engaging start to what promises to be an unforgettable experience!
