Message from the school president regarding the resumption of classes after the Taal Volcano eruption.

25 January 2020

Dear Parents, Students, Faculty, and Staff at Xavier School Nuvali,

For the last two weeks, our school personnel have been working double time to clean our campus and prepare it for the resumption of classes. We have been making major progress as each day passes, with the assistance and generosity of many kind-hearted people and organizations. The faculty and staff reported for work on two days and distance-learning modules (DLM) have been launched so that time can be put to productive use and learning can continue despite the circumstances.

Last Monday, January 20, the Department of Education and the local government resumed classes in Calamba City, recognizing that although Alert Level 4 is still in place, our city is not in the "forced evacuation" area covering the 14-km radius of Taal Volcano. We are more than 20 kilometers away, but we suspended classes for another week in order to continue cleaning our 15-hectare campus.

The safety of all, especially of the students in our care, is our utmost priority. We will resume classes only if we have satisfactory conditions on campus, and disaster preparedness protocols have been reviewed in light of the possibility of a volcanic eruption in Taal. Power was restored to the campus last night (Friday, January 24, after several hours outage), but we will continue to suspend classes on Monday, January 27. Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 28. All DLM deadlines are still in force.

The Principal will send a separate circular with instructions for what students should bring to school, and other disaster-preparedness protocols that all should review.

We fully respect the decision of some families to relocate for the time being. We will continue to assist students of these families through DLM, and maximum accommodation will be given for absences. Please do not feel pressured to return to Laguna if you feel safer where you have relocated.

The faculty and staff will report for work on Monday, January 27 (regular hours now apply).

Thank you very much, and I wish you all a Happy Chinese New Year!

Sincerely,

(sgd.)
